- Access, interpret and apply control of drilling emergencies and critical situations documentation and ensure the work activity is compliant
- Obtain, read, interpret, clarify and confirm work requirements

- Select and wear personal protective equipment appropriate for work activities
- Communicate and coordinate activities with others prior to, during and on completion of the work activity
- Identify, establish and maintain communication systems with other personnel during the drilling emergency

- Identify and maintain safe working practices
- Interpret/apply national standards and code of practice for manual handling

- Identify, interpret and apply processes and systems to quickly and competently close the well

- Locate full opening safety valve, blow out prevention (BOP) and flow control head
- Provide assistance in the application of First Aid and medivac procedures
- Monitor the situation and initiate actions to minimise risks to personnel, environment, process, plant, tools and equipment
- Maintain verbal and written reporting requirements of critical situations
- Participate in debriefs and complete written records/documentation
- Respond to emergencies in other areas

- Set and pull manual slips
- Operate make-up and break-out manual tongs
- Move drill floor drilling tools and equipment
- Read, interpret and apply isolation and tagging procedures
- Read, interpret and apply permit to work system
- Attend and participate in pit emergency drills and safety meetings
